Home Insurance FAQs

Answers to rent protections, item valuations, and domestic worker coverage.

Yes, your landlord's insurance only covers the structure/building itself. If a fire or flooding happens, or if your apartment is burglarized, the landlord's policy will not reimburse you for your clothes, furniture, or electronics. A "Tenant's Contents Only" policy is very affordable and covers your assets specifically.

You should make a list room-by-room and estimate what it would cost to purchase each item brand new today (replacement cost). Underwriters require an inventory list for items above a certain value (e.g. televisions, fridge, washing machine, sound systems) detailing serial numbers.

Standard home contents policies only cover items while they are physically inside the insured house. For portable items that you carry around (like phones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, or wedding rings), you must purchase a special "All Risks" rider, which protects these items against accidental damage and theft anywhere in the world.
